NORMAN — The University of Oklahoma's Austin Seibert capped a successful first collegiate season by being named to the Football Writers Association of America Freshman All-America Team as a punter on Monday.

Seibert, a Ray Guy Award semifinalist and a second-team All-Big 12 honoree, averaged 42.0 yards on his 57 punts this season. Eleven of his punts went at least 50 yards, 23 were downed inside the 20-yard line and only two went for touchbacks.

From Belleville, Ill., Seibert was part of a punt unit that led the nation by allowing only 1.1 yards per return (11 returns for a total of 12 yards). The Sooners led the Big 12 with their 41.1-yard net punting average on the year.

Seibert doubled as OU's placekicker this season, connecting on 18 of 23 field goal attempts (78 percent) and 70 of 72 extra point tries (97 percent). He became the first freshman in school history to make each of his first 10 field goal attempts.

Seibert led Big 12 kickers and ranked second among all league players with his 9.5 points per game.
