NORMAN — The Oklahoma soccer team wraps up its non-conference slate this week, starting with an afternoon contest at Oral Roberts on Tuesday, Sept. 29. The Sooners (6-4-1 overall, 1-0-1 Big 12) and Golden Eagles (4-3-2 overall, 0-0-0 Summit League) will play at 2 p.m. CT.
1. MATCH RESCHEDULED
The contest between Oklahoma and Oral Roberts was rescheduled after the original meeting, held on Sept. 4, was canceled following a power outage at John Crain Field in Norman. The first meeting was recorded as a “no contest” since it was in the 56th minute when it was called and did not reach the 70-minute mark as required by NCAA rules. At the time, the Sooners led 1-0 on a penalty kick from sophomore Madeline Brem. The match will be restarted and all statistics from the previous contest will be abandoned.
2. FACING THE TOP 25
OU continues to face stout competition as five of its 2015 opponents are currently ranked or receiving votes in the NSCAA/Continental Tire poll. So far this season, the Sooners are 1-2-1 against ranked opponents. OU defeated then-No. 18 Arizona State by a 2-0 score and also faced South Carolina and Stanford, who were ranked No. 11 and No. 2, respectively, by the NSCAA at time of competition. On Friday, Sept. 25, OU tied with No. 15 Texas Tech, 0-0, to open Big 12 play. The Sooners received 13 points in the most recent poll.
3. TOP-50 RPI
The first NCAA Women's Soccer RPI was released last week, and the Sooners found themselves within the top 50. OU checks in at No. 46 in the RPI, the third best in the Big 12. West Virginia (No. 14) and Texas Tech (No. 28) are the only Big 12 squads ranked ahead of the Sooners. Oklahoma State (No. 64), Kansas (No. 72) and Texas (No. 74) are all within the top 100 of the rankings.
4. DEPTH KEY FOR SOONERS
A total of 24 Sooners have made an appearance in at least one match this season. In nine contests, OU has recorded 24 goals from 13 different players. Notching multiple scores for the Sooners have been junior Caren Nelson with four, freshman Emily Parker with three and junior Liz Keester, sophomores Tori Bowman and Rasha Roberts and freshman Kaylee Dao with two apiece. Additionally, eight players have at least one assist.
5. SHUTOUT STREAK
Currently, the OU defense is riding a three-game shutout streak. Junior Kassidie Stade has been in goal for those contests and holds a 4-4-1 record on the season, with all four victories coming via shutouts. The Sooners have not allowed an opponent score in 349 minutes (last came in the 31st minute against Tulsa on Friday, Sept. 18).
ORAL ROBERTS
• Tuesday's match marks the 17th all-time meeting between OU and Oral Roberts. The Sooners lead 13-3 and have taken the last two matchups by scores of 1-0 (Sept. 26, 2014 in Norman; Sept. 13, 2013 in Norman).
• Twelve Golden Eagles have scored 20 total goals this season, led by four goals apiece from senior forward Kayla Keller and junior forward Brittney Lawrence.
• The Golden Eagles haven't played since Sunday, Sept. 20, when they lost to crosstown rival Tulsa by a score of 2-1.
• Oral Roberts is 4-3-2 on the season, all non-conference contests. At home in the Case Soccer Complex, the Golden Eagles have posted a 4-1-1 record in 2015.
The Sooners close out non-conference play against Illinois State in Normal, Ill., this weekend. The match is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. CT on Friday, Oct. 2.
