Sooners in the NFL: Preseason Week 3

NORMAN – Week Three of the NFL preseason is over and Tuesday marked the day that teams needed to trim their rosters down to 75 players. One week of the preseason remains before teams get to their 53-man rosters on Sept. 5.

Playing in his second preseason game, Sam Bradford was perfect for Philadelphia in a 39-26 win over Green Bay. Bradford was 10-10 for 121 yards and three touchdown passes. Bradford first connected with Darren Sproles on an eight-yard score, then found Trey Burton from three yards out before wrapping up his day with a seven-yard pass to Brent Celek.

Also in the game, DeMarco Murray ran six times for 28 yards and caught two passes for 12 yards, while Lane Johnson started at right tackle.

On the other side of the ball, rookie Aaron Ripkowski played for the Packers but did not have any stats.

Quarterback Landry Jones was 7-12 passing for 77 yards and threw a 39-yard touchdown pass to Martavis Bryant, but Pittsburgh was beat by Buffalo, 43-19. Garrett Hartley made a 28-yard field goal for Pittsburgh in the loss, but later left the game with a hamstring injury and was subsequently placed on injured reserve on Monday.

Wide receiver Ryan Broyles was targeted once but did not have any receptions in Detroit's 22-17 win over Jacksonville. He played only 16 snaps in the game and then asked for his release, which was granted Monday. Meanwhile, Travis Lewis started at outside linebacker for Detroit and finished by tying for the team lead with eight tackles.

For the Jaguars, Aaron Colvin made one tackle in the loss.

Trent Williams returned from a one-game absence to start at left tackle in Washington's 31-13 win over Baltimore. In bigger news, he also signed a new five-year contract worth up to $66 million, making him the highest-paid tackle in league history. Also for Washington against the Ravens, Tress Way punted twice for an average of 39.5 yards.

Rookie tight end Blake Bell tied for the team lead with three receptions and gained 19 yards but San Francisco fell to Denver, 19-12. Also for the 49ers, fullback Trey Millard saw playing time in the game but was one of 10 players cut by the team Monday. He was a seventh-round pick in 2014, but missed all of last season after an ACL injury during his senior season with the Sooners.

In the Broncos' win, linebacker Corey Nelson played but did not record any stats. Rookie defensive lineman Chuka Ndulue did not play for Denver.

Miami got its first win in the preseason thanks to a 13-9 win over Atlanta. For the Dolphins, wide receiver Kenny Stills caught two passes for 26 yards, while running back Damien Williams rushed six times for 19 yards. Rookie defensive tackle Jordan Phillips added a preseason-high three tackles in the win.

Chris Chester started on the offensive line for Atlanta in the Falcons' loss.

Safety Tony Jefferson made five tackles as Arizona defeated Oakland, 30-23. Tight end Jermaine Gresham did not play in week three and will not play in week four of the preseason, either, thanks to a hamstring injury.

Curtis Lofton started at middle linebacker for the Raiders in the loss, registering five tackles, including one for loss. Defensive tackle Stacy McGee made one tackle for Oakland, but also broke up two passes.

Defensive back Demontre Hurst had four tackles for Chicago in a 21-10 loss to Cincinnati.

Jamell Fleming made two tackles, offensive lineman Donald Stephenson made his second straight start and James Winchester snapped on all kicks as Kansas City topped Tennessee, 34-10. Gabe Ikard saw playing time for Tennessee in the loss.

Defensive tackle David King had tackles on back-to-back plays in Seattle's 16-15 win at San Diego.

Rookie Geneo Grissom made one tackle on special teams and defensive tackle Casey Walker added a stop of his own as New England bested Carolina, 17-16. Rookie tackle Daryl Williams saw playing time for the Panthers in the loss.

Jalen Saunders caught one pass for 11 yards and returned five kicks for 26 yards in New Orleans' 27-13 loss to Houston. Tuesday, he was traded to New England for a conditional seventh-round pick.

Gerald McCoy had one tackle for Tampa Bay in the Bucs' 31-7 loss to Cleveland.

Tight end James Hanna missed his second straight game due to injury as Dallas was doubled up by Minnesota, 28-14. Also not playing in the game was Vikings running back Adrian Peterson, though rookie offensive lineman Tyrus Thompson did suit up and play for Minnesota.
