Sooners in the NFL: Preseason Week 2

NORMAN -- Week Two of the NFL preseason saw the successful debuts of Sam Bradford and DeMarco Murray in Philadelphia, plus multi-touchdown games from Landry Jones and Damien Williams.

In two of the most anticipated debuts of the preseason, quarterback Sam Bradford and running back DeMarco Murray each saw the field for the first time as members of the Philadelphia Eagles in the team's 40-17 win over Baltimore. Bradford played in just one series but was 3-5 with 35 yards passing and made a big step forward. Murray rushed five times for 17 yards, including a two-yard touchdown run. Lane Johnson also started at right tackle for the Eagles in the win.

One week after Minnesota's Phil Loadholt was lost for the season due to a torn Achilles tendon, Carolina defensive end Frank Alexander suffered the same fate just four plays into the Panthers' 31-30 win over Miami. He was placed on injured reserve on Tuesday. Meanwhile, rookie offensive lineman Daryl Williams, listed as the backup right tackle, is expanding his role with the Panthers.

In the loss, Miami's Damien Williams rushed four times for 14 yards, including a one-yard touchdown, and caught an 11-yard touchdown pass. He's making strides in his sophomore campaign. Also in the game, Kenny Stills made his 2015 debut by catching one pass for five yards and Jordan Phillips saw playing time.

Landry Jones threw two touchdown passes and Garrett Hartley converted on a 46-yard field goal, helping Pittsburgh defeat Green Bay, 24-19. Jones completed 10-19 passes for 172 yards and one interception, finding Sammie Coates for a 54-yard gain, Tyler Murphy for a 22-yard touchdown and Shakim Phillips for a 20-yard score. He's aiming for the Steelers' backup quarterback spot on the roster.

In a losing effort for the Packers, Aaron Ripkowski made two tackles on special teams.

Tress Way averaged 47.8 yards on his four punts, including placing one inside the 20-yard line, as Washington defeated Detroit, 21-17. His confidence has grown following his rookie year. Offensive tackle Trent Williams did not play for Washington as he dealt with a sore toe.

On the losing end, linebacker Travis Lewis made six tackles and returned a fumble 30 yards to end the first half. Ryan Broyles also caught three passes for 31 yards for Detroit.

Rookie Chuka Ndulue finished with four tackles, including half of a sack, while linebacker Corey Nelson matched him with four tackles of his own in a 14-10 win for Denver against Houston.

Aaron Colvin started at cornerback for Jacksonville, but the Jaguars fell to the New York Giants, 22-12. Colvin could be on the verge of breaking out this season.

Rookie Geneo Grissom saw playing time for New England in its 26-24 win over New Orleans, but he did not record any stats. Grissom is putting value in his versatility. In addition, Casey Walker started at defensive tackle for the Patriots and Jalen Saunders saw playing time for the Saints. Neither player recorded a stat.

San Francisco tight end Blake Bell caught one pass for five yards, while fullback Trey Millard was targeted once on an incomplete pass as San Francisco topped Dallas, 23-6. Perhaps signaling Bell's favorable status with the team, the 49ers have traded away two other tight ends on their roster within the last week.

Dallas tight end James Hanna missed the game with a knee injury and could be in a fight for his roster spot.

Chris Chester started at guard for the second straight game for Atlanta, but the Falcons fell to the New York Jets, 30-22.Defensive tackle Gerald McCoy assisted on a sack as Tampa Bay beat Cincinnati, 25-11.

Linebacker Curtis Lofton and defensive tackle Stacy McGee each posted three tackles for Oakland in a 20-12 loss to Minnesota. Adrian Peterson sat out for the Vikings and is not expected to play in the preseason, while offensive lineman Tyrus Thompson did see the field for Minnesota.

Cornerback Jamell Fleming had four tackles for Kansas City in the Chiefs' 14-13 win over Seattle. Additionally, James Winchester served as Kansas City's long snapper and made a tackle on special teams, while Donald Stephenson started on the offensive line.

David King did not play for the Seahawks in the loss and has yet to play in the preseason.

Like King, tight end Jermaine Gresham did not play in week two as Arizona fell to San Diego, 22-19. Gresham has not yet made his Arizona debut since signing with the team this summer. Safety Tony Jefferson had two tackles for Arizona in the loss.

Chicago's Demontre Hurst made three tackles and broke up a pass as the Bears knocked off Indianapolis, 23-11.

Center Gabe Ikard saw playing time for Tennessee in a 27-14 victory over St. Louis.
