NORMAN — Matching its position in the Amway Coaches Poll, the Oklahoma football team will begin the 2015 season ranked No. 19 in the AP Top 25 Poll. The organization released its preseason rankings Sunday.

This marks the 16th consecutive year that Oklahoma has been ranked in the top 20 in the AP's annual preseason poll. The last time OU was ranked No. 19 in the preseason AP poll was 2000, Bob Stoops' second year in Norman. The Sooners won the national championship that season.

OU has now been ranked in the preseason AP poll 57 times, second to only Ohio State (62). The AP's preseason poll began in 1950.

The Sooners are one of three teams in this year's preseason AP poll. TCU is ranked No. 2 and Baylor is ranked No. 4.

Oklahoma boasts five players on the 2015 Preseason All-Big 12 Team in senior receiver Sterling Shepard, senior linebacker Eric Striker, junior kick returner Alex Ross, junior cornerback Zack Sanchez and sophomore running back Samaje Perine.

OU opens the season by hosting Akron on Sept. 5 at 6 p.m. CT inside Gaylord Family — Oklahoma Memorial Stadium. Click here to purchase 2015 single-game tickets.
