NORMAN — Scott Anderson, the University Oklahoma's head athletic trainer, is one of two recent inductees into the 2015 Oklahoma Athletic Trainers' Association Hall of Fame. Anderson was joined by Sydney Ringer of Oklahoma Christian University as members of the 14th class of the OATA Hall of Fame.

Hall-of-fame inductees are honored state members who provided the foundation for the profession of athletic training in the state of Oklahoma. Established in 1997, the OATA Hall of Fame now has 20 members.

"Athletic medicine at the University of Oklahoma, like sport, has a rich tradition and is laden with legends," Anderson said. "I have been, and am, blessed to work with some of the all-time great physicians, athletic trainers, and physical therapists."

An OU alumnus, Anderson has diligently served his alma mater in the head role for the past 20 years. After graduating in 1979, he was a part of the Oklahoma athletic training staff for seven years. During his first stint at OU he began to make an immediate impact in the athletic training arena. Anderson was one of the few who worked persistently to establish the Oklahoma Athletic Training Practice Act in 1981, a document that continues to provide for the governance and the growth of athletic training in the state of Oklahoma.

Anderson departed OU in 1986 to become the head athletic trainer at Tulane University in New Orleans. During his nine-year tenure at Tulane, he helped develop a comprehensive sports medicine program in conjunction with the Tulane Medical School and was also the coordinator of Tulane's substance abuse program and the school's athletic training clinic.

With his continued commitment and contributions to the athletic training industry, Anderson is not short on recognition from his professional colleagues. In addition to his hall-of-fame induction, he has received the National Athletic Trainers Association's College and University Committee Athletic Trainer of the Year Award in 2006, the honor of Outstanding Athletic Trainer from the All-American Football Foundation in 2005, and his athletic training staff was awarded the Big 12 Athletic Training Staff of the Year for the 2000?2001 competitive season.

Anderson continues to be active in serving and improving health and safety in sport on a national level. He was the co-chair of NATA's Task Force for Sickle Cell Trait in Athletes and is still a contributing member to other NATA task forces. Anderson is also the current president of the College Athletic Trainers' Society.

Anderson is the fifth Oklahoma Athletic Trainers Association Hall of Fame inductee that is either an OU alumnus or has been an employee of OU Athletics. Others are Ken Rawlinson (1997), Alex Brown (2011), Dr. Martin Tippie (2012) and Jim Hillis (2013).
