Sooners Third in Big 12 Preseason Poll

NORMAN — Oklahoma has been selected third in the 2015 Big 12 Football Preseason Poll, which was voted on by media representatives who cover the conference and announced Thursday.

OU garnered 312 total points in the poll. TCU (408 points; 32 first-place votes) was voted the preseason favorite for the first time while Baylor (384 points; 10 first-place votes) was picked second.

Coming in behind the Sooners were Oklahoma State in fourth place, Texas in fifth, West Virginia in sixth, Kansas State in seventh, Texas Tech in eighth, Iowa State in ninth and Kansas in 10th.

The Sooners enter the 20th year of Big 12 play leading the league with eight Big 12 championships (2000, 2002, 2004, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2010 and 2012). Texas is the next closest with three Big 12 titles.

Five Sooners comprised one-sixth of the 2015 Preseason All-Big 12 Football Team that was released Wednesday. Making the squad for OU were sophomore running back Samaje Perine, junior running back/kick returner Alex Ross, junior defensive back Zack Sanchez, senior wide receiver Sterling Shepard and senior linebacker Eric Striker.

Next up for Oklahoma is Big 12 Media Day on Tuesday, July 21 in Dallas. The Sooners will be represented by head coach Bob Stoops, Shepard, Striker, center Ty Darlington and quarterback Trevor Knight. SoonerSports.com will provide complete coverage of OU's session at the event.
