NORMAN – The Oklahoma football team's first ever contest at the University of Tennessee has been given a start time and television designation, ESPN announced Thursday.
The Sept. 12 contest will kick off in Neyland Stadium at 5 p.m. CT and will be carried by ESPN.
After meeting in the Orange Bowl in Miami for the first two meetings in the series in 1939 and 1968, the Sooners and Volunteers played at a campus site and in the regular season for the first time last year in Norman.
Trevor Knight passed for 308 yards and a touchdown and ran for another score to help Oklahoma defeat Tennessee 34-10 on Sept. 13, 2014. In addition, Sterling Shepard caught five passes for 109 yards, and Julian Wilson had a 100-yard interception return for a touchdown in the fourth quarter as OU took a 2-1 lead in the all-time series.
The contest against Tennessee will be the Sooners' second game ever in the Volunteer State as Oklahoma defeated Vanderbilt in Nashville, 24-3, on Sept. 11, 1976.
Two of Oklahoma's 12 regular season contests now have known kickoff times. OU's game against Tulsa in Norman on Sept. 19 will be played at 11 a.m. and air on Fox Sports 1.
