NORMAN — The OU Board of Regents approved on Thursday the replacement of the playing field surfaces at L. Dale Mitchell Park and Marita Hynes Field at a guaranteed maximum price of $2.565 million.
Construction is anticipated to begin in June and be completed in the fall. Funding for the dual project has been identified, is available and budgeted from OU Athletics capital accounts.
The replacement of the playing surfaces will be the latest on a long list of improvements made at OU's baseball and softball stadiums. Since 2006, improvements have included indoor practice buildings and field lighting at both facilities, as well as lower-level seating and backstop netting, a new ticket booth and fencing at L. Dale Mitchell Park.
