NORMAN — University of Oklahoma women's golfer Hannah Wood was named to the 10-member 2015 All-Big 12 Team, the conference announced Thursday.
Wood, a freshman, owns a team-leading 73.11 (+1.41) stroke average on the year and has recorded six top-10 finishes in OU's nine events. In March, she grabbed her first individual crown at the Clover Cup with a collegiate-best 209 (-7) and was named Golfweek's Player of the Week for her performance. The Centennial, Colo., native is coming off a share of fifth place at the Big 12 Championship, played April 24-26 in San Antonio, Texas.
Baylor's Dylan Kim was named Big 12 Freshman of the Year, while Bertine Strauss of Texas was awarded the conference's player of the year. Baylor's Jay Goble was named Big 12 Coach of the Year. The all-conference team was selected by using the 10 highest-ranked student-athletes in the Golfstat ratings. Wood is ranked 77th nationally.
Sixth-year OU head coach Veronique Drouin-Luttrell said Wood's honor was well deserved.
“I'm very proud of Hannah,” Drouin-Luttrell said. ”She has been working hard all season, and it's very exciting to see what all she has accomplished as a freshman.”
Wood and the Sooners began their NCAA Championships journey today at the NCAA San Antonio Regional in San Antonio, Texas. She finished Thursday's opening round tied for 24th place with a 1-under 71, playing the last nine holes at 4 under. Live scoring and results for the regional can be found at GolfStat.com.
