NORMAN, Okla. – Oklahoma baseball is on the road this weekend for a three-game, Big 12 series at Kansas State. The series gets underway Friday night at 6:00 pm.
The Sooners snapped a five-game losing streak on Sunday with a 5-3 win over No. 11 Oklahoma State in the Bedlam Series finale. Oklahoma is now 30-21 overall and 11-7 in conference play. Junior second baseman Kolbey Carpenter leads the way with a .370 batting average and .565 slugging percentage on eight home runs and 36 RBI. Junior center fielder Craig Aikin ranks second at .348 with a team-leading 12 doubles, while he and Carpenter have each scored a team-best 41 runs. Three other Sooners are hitting .300-or-better, including sophomore shortstop Sheldon Neuse (.304), redshirt-senior right fielder Taylor Alspaugh (.302) and junior catcher/first baseman Anthony Hermelyn (.300). On Friday, Oklahoma looks to sophomore RHP Jake Elliott (4-4), who has pitched the weekend opener all 12 times this season. He owns a 2.50 earned run average and .208 batting average against. The Sooners pitching staff is first in the Big 12 and ninth in the nation with an 8.95 strikeout-per-nine-inning average.
Scouting the Wildcats
Kansas State returns to conference play after a series win over Arkansas State and a midweek loss to Wichita State. The Wildcats are 23-25 overall and 7-11 in the Big 12. Catcher Tyler Moore leads the way at the plate with a .326 batting average to go with 27 RBI. First baseman Shane Conlon is second at .314, while adding 30 runs scored and eight steals. On the mound, RHP Natie Griep, who tossed a complete game shutout at OU last season, is 4-2 with a staff-best 2.97 ERA as he has struck out 52 across 60.2 innings of work.
95 and 95
Redshirt-senior RHP Robert Tasin and junior LHP Jacob Evans have combined for 95 at-bats and 95 innings pitched. Only 10 players have hit and pitched in the Big 12 this season, including the Sooners' Neuse. Only Texas has used as many two-way players this season, but combined for only 40 at-bats and 78.2 innings.

Sooner assistant and hitting coach Mike Anderson is the father of K-State infielder Taylor Anderson. A switch-hitter, the younger Anderson has been used primarily as a designated hitter or pinch-hitter through 16 starts and 30 total appearances.
Putting the Ball in Play
Oklahoma led the Big 12 in fewest strikeouts per game in 2014 at 4.86. Once again, the Sooners are at the top of the league; striking out at a rate of 5.61 per game. Kansas (5.85) is second. On balls hit in play, Oklahoma is hitting .318, led by Carpenter (.407) and Aikin (.389). Hermelyn (.315) is the third toughest to strikeout in the Big 12 with one strikeout for every 10.7 at-bats.
