NORMAN — The No. 10-ranked Oklahoma men's golf team took sixth place at the 2015 Big 12 Championship in Tulsa, Okla., with a four-round 1178 (+58). The three-day tournament was played at the 7,151-yard, par-70 Southern Hills Country Club.

The third-seeded Sooners tallied a 295 (+15) on Wednesday against the nine-team field, which featured seven squads ranked within the top 50 of the latest Golfstat rankings.

No. 1 seed Texas, ranked second in the nation, won the tournament for the third straight year with a 10-over-par 1130. No. 2 seed Texas Tech took second at 34 over par, and No. 6 seed TCU finished third with a 47-over 1167. No. 7 seed Iowa State finished fourth at 51 over, and No. 5 seed Oklahoma State rounded out the top five with an 1172 (+52).

OU's Michael Gellerman recorded his second top-five finish of the season and sixth of his career by tying for third out of 45 competitors. The senior shot a 2-over-par 72 in the final round and a 287 (+7) for the event. Gellerman played the first 16 holes of the round at par.

With a four-round 296 (+16), junior Beau Titsworth claimed a share of 20th. Titsworth, who posted a 72 (+2) on Wednesday, now has four top-20 finishes this season, including three in a row.

In his first Big 12 appearance, freshman Grant Hirschman tied for 24th. Hirschman finished with a 298 (+18) after posting a 6-over 76 to close the tournament.

Senior Charlie Saxon tied for 32nd with a 302 (+22), while junior Luke Kwon took 43rd with a 32-over-par 312. Saxon shot a 5-over 75 on Wednesday, and Kwon closed with an 80 (+10).

Sixth-year OU head coach Ryan Hybl said it was a frustrating week for his squad, but he expects it to bounce back in its next event.

"It was a very disappointing week for us as we had some nice momentum coming into this tournament and we just did about everything wrong on the golf course that we could do," Hybl said. "Michael continued his consistent good play but unfortunately didn't get enough help. We are frustrated, but we will bounce back, and this is a wake-up call before NCAA postseason."

The Sooners will return to the course for an NCAA Regional on May 14-16. The selections for the NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championship will be announced starting at 9 a.m. CT on Monday, May 5 live on the Golf Channel.
