FORT WORTH - The Oklahoma women's gymnastics team capped a stellar season on Sunday afternoon with a strong showing at the NCAA Individual Event Finals. The Sooners captured 10 top 10 national finishes across all four events, including NCAA runner-up honors on floor exercise for freshman Brenna Dowell.
Oklahoma placed 10 total routines from seven gymnasts in event finals this season, the most of any team in the nation. All event finalists were first team All-Americans. OU captured 13 NCAA All-America honors this season between the first and second team, a program record.
Dowell was one of the day's final competitors on floor exercise and put an exclamation mark on the weekend with her performance. The Odessa, Mo., native hit a huge double front to open and nailed both of her additional passes with precision for a 9.95, good to tie Denver's Nina McGee for second.
Dowell also competed a lovely bars routine with precise handstands and a huge Church release, taking only a small step on her dismount for a 9.85 and a 10th place finish.
Junior Haley Scaman also had an outstanding day to cap her extraordinary junior campaign. The Riverside, Ill., native hit a 9.8917 on vault to finish in a tie for third, matching her podium finish last season on the event. Scaman added a beautiful floor routine for a 9.9375, slotting in at fourth just behind Dowell and McGee on the podium.
Sophomore McKenzie Wofford had a big fourth-place finish as the last competitor of the day on uneven bars. Wofford swung with the same beauty and precision she has displayed all season, showing perfect toe-point and a strong Jaeger in her effort for a 9.925.
Wofford was joined on the podium by Keeley Kmieciak, who hit a 9.9 to tie for fifth. Kmieciak also notched a podium finish on beam with a 9.8625 on a routine that was rock-solid from start to finish. The junior finished in seventh overall on the event.
All three of Oklahoma's competitors on beam finished in the top seven, a stellar showing for a beam lineup that has been one of the very best all season. Sophomore Chayse Capps led the way with a fourth place finish after competing in the first lineup spot of the afternoon. She showed an upgraded front aerial to scale and fluid dance throughout for a 9.9125.
Clark also took the podium on beam, capturing a fifth place finish to wrap up an incredible career with the Sooners. She hit every element with confidence, capped by a stuck 1.5 dismount for a 9.875 on the afternoon.
Rounding out OU's performances was freshman Ali Jackson, who capped a fantastic vaulting season a huge Yurchenko 1.5 that scored a 9.8583 to finish sixth.
Event finals mark the end of a memorable season for the Oklahoma women's gymnastics program. The Sooners were the 2015 Big 12 champions, NCAA Norman Regional champions and third-place NCAA finishers. OU spent the entire regular season ranked No. 1, posted the nation's only undefeated regular season and earned 13 NCAA All-America awards and 11 regular season All-America accolades.
