Williams Adds Suzuki to Signing Class

NORMAN – University of Oklahoma head men's gymnastics coach Mark Williams, fresh off winning his sixth NCAA Team National Championship, announced the addition of Genki Suzuki to the 2015 signing class.

Suzuki is the fifth signee of a loaded class that will try to replace seven graduating seniors. Suzuki is joined by Levi Anderson, Peter Daggett, Eric Holley and Yul Moldauer as incoming freshmen for the 2015-16 season.

“Genki Suzuki has a lot of talent and potential to thrive on the collegiate level once he gets the training,” said Williams. “He is also an exceptional student and is very smart in gymnastics and in the classroom. He could make a big impact for us in the upcoming years.”

From North Wales, Pa., Suzuki took first place in the all-around competition at the 2015 BlackJack Men's Championship in Las Vegas from Feb. 20-22. He posted a score of 83.400 in the all-around and also claimed two individual event titles on the vault and pommel horse. Suzuki also took second on high bar and bronze on the floor exercise and parallel bars. He also won the 2015 Pennsylvania State Championship with an all-around score of 87.000 and posted a career-high all-around score of 89.400 at the 2015 Regionals.

Suzuki's parents are Yoshikzu and Yoko Suzuki and he attends Wissahickon High School. He is coached by Brad Davis at Montgomery County Sports Performance Center.

The men's gymnastics program wrapped up the 2015 season in Norman with its ninth NCAA national championship. The Sooners scored a 447.050 to take the crown, the highest mark in a team final in NCAA history.
