Round-Three Results

NORMAN – The University of Oklahoma women's golf team turned in the fourth-best score of the day and finished the 15-team PING/ASU Invitational in 10th place with a three-round 880 (+16). The tournament was played at the par-72, 6,223-yard ASU Karsten Golf Course in Tempe, Ariz.

The Sooners fired a third-round 293 (+5) Sunday to jump three spots on the leaderboard. The PING/ASU Invitational featured 12 of Golfweek's top 25 teams. No. 7-ranked Arizona won the tournament with an 861 (-3). No. 22 Baylor and No. 16 Arizona State tied for second, each shooting an 868 (+4).

Freshman Ana Ruiz paced the Sooners, firing a three-round 215 (-1) and sharing 10th place out of 87 competitors, her best collegiate finish. Ruiz registered two birdies Sunday en route to a final-round 73 (+1).

OU freshman Hannah Wood parred her last nine holes and finished the day with a 72 (E). Wood tied for 34th place with a 221 (+5).

Valerie Tanguay, another freshman, was at 1 over heading into the final round, but shot a 79 (+7) on the day and finished the tournament at 224 (+8). Tanguay tied for 52nd place.

Oklahoma sophomore Alexandra Kaui carded her tournament-best 73 (+1) in Sunday's round and finished tied for 57th place at 225 (+9). Freshman Rylee Pedigo recorded a final-round 75 (+3) to finish at 232 (+16). Pedigo tied for 79th place.

OU sophomore Maggie Neece competed as an individual and was unattached from team scoring. Neece logged a 75 (+3) Sunday and tied for 77th place at 231 (+15).

Sixth-year OU head coach Veronique Drouin-Luttrell said she is excited about the way her team finished the regular season.

“We've all put in time and effort into our games and it's finally paying off at the right time,” Drouin-Luttrell said. “We played solid all week, and for us to have one of the best rounds in the field today will give us the confidence we need. I'm proud of the way we played all week in a tournament like this. We just have to keep believing in ourselves and keep playing our own game.”

The PING/ASU Invitational marked the final regular-season tournament for the Sooners. The squad will return to the course April 24-26 at the Big 12 Championship in San Antonio, Texas.
