Through his first two seasons at OU, Aikin is a .484 hitter in seven career games against Baylor with three three-plus hit games.

NORMAN, Okla. – The University of Oklahoma baseball team heads to Waco for a three-game series in its second Big 12 weekend of the season. The action gets underway Friday night at 6:30 pm.

The Sooners have played four-consecutive games against top-10 opponents and came away with a 2-2 record. They opened Big 12 play at 2-1 by taking a series from No. 10 Texas Tech and then fell to No. 4 TCU on Tuesday night in walk-off fashion. Overall, Oklahoma is 17-10 and received votes in this week's USA Today Coaches Poll. The Sooners' one-through-five hitters are all hitting .300-or-better, led by junior center fielder Craig Aikin (.358), who has adjusted to hitting in the three-hole the last three games. Junior Kolbey Carpenter (.344) has responded to a move to the lead-off role by hitting .500 (6-for-12) over the last three games. Sophomore shortstop Sheldon Neuse (.311) and redshirt-senior right fielder Taylor Alspaugh (.310) are each coming off two-hit games against the Horned Frogs. Junior Anthony Hermelyn (.301) rounds out the group of .300-hitters. The Sooner pitching staff is holding opponents to a .232 batting average with a 2.81 earned run average.

Scouting the Bears

The Baylor Bears are led offensively by center fielder  Logan Brown with a .302 batting average in 86 at-bats with 18 runs scored and 10 driven in. On the mound, LHP Daniel Castano leads the team with 22 strikeouts across 30 innings with a 2.35 ERA. In his 21st year as head coach, former Baylor baseball player Steve Smith and the Bears are 10-14 this season and have a 2-4 Big 12 record.

Complete Effort

Alec Hansen tossed the first complete game of his career, at any level, against No. 10 Texas Tech (3/21). He struck out 10 and surrendered only three hits, while working through a choppy fifth after four, no-hit innings to start the day. Hansen flashed a fastball at 101 MPH in the third and sustained a 97 MPH heater through the ninth. His complete game was the first by a Sooner since Jonathan Gray vs. Coastal Carolina (5/31/13) in the NCAA Blacksburg Regional.

Putting the Ball in Play

Oklahoma led the Big 12 in fewest strikeouts per game in 2014 at 4.86. Once again, the Sooners are at the top of the league; striking out at a rate of 5.26 per game. Kansas (5.67) is the only other team below six per game. On balls hit in play, Oklahoma is hitting .317, led by Aikin at .403. He is the third toughest to strikeout in the Big 12 with one strikeout for every 10.9 at-bats.
