Parker struck out seven and became just the 11th player in NCAA DI history to throw three perfect games in a season. She also became just the 22nd player to throw three in a career. Meanwhile, Pendley tied Amber Flores' school record by hitting three home runs in a single contest. Pendley hit a solo home run in the first and fourth innings and also hit a three-run homer in the second. She drove in five for her eighth career game with at least five RBI. |

NORMAN – History was made in the circle and at the plate Saturday afternoon as No. 6 Oklahoma (20-3) run-ruled East Carolina (7-18) in five innings, 11-0.
Freshman Paige Parker joined elite company as she threw her third career perfect game, while senior Shelby Pendley tied a school record by hitting three home runs as the Sooners extended their winning streak to a season-best 10 games. The last seven of those wins have all been via run-rule.
Parker became the 22nd player in NCAA DI history, and the first Sooner, to throw three perfect games in a career, and she's done it all in only 10 starts. In addition, she is the 11th player in NCAA DI history to throw three perfect games in one season. Only Louisiana-Lafayette's Kyla Hall and Boston's Audrey West had more when they each threw four in the 1994 season.
Among the 11 to throw at least three perfect games in a season, only Cat Osterman (2002) also did it as a freshman like Parker.
Parker, who threw perfect games at Hawaii on Feb. 7 and against Missouri State on March 7, improved to 8-2 on the season as she struck out seven and faced the minimum 15 batters. She had one strikeout in every inning, including two each in the first and second frames. No ball even left the infield as she got four popouts, three groundouts and a lineout in addition to her strikeouts.
Like Parker dominated in the circle, it was Pendley who made history at the plate.
Pendley tied a school record as she hit three home runs. Pendley joins former Sooner Amber Flores as the only Sooners to accomplish the feat. Flores did it in the Super Regionals against Washington on May 27, 2010.
Pendley was 3-3 with three home runs and five runs batted in. She hit a solo homer in the first, and three-run shot in the second and another solo homer in the fourth. With 67 career home runs she's tied for 18th on the all-time list and is tied for fifth at OU with 48 homers.
The Sooners jumped on the Pirates from the start, needing only two batters to take the lead.
After Nicole Pendley singled, senior Lauren Chamberlain launched a two-run homer to right center. It was her 85th career home run, tying Arizona's Leah Braatz ('94-95, '97-98) and Laura Espinoza ('92-95) for third on the all-time home run list. Chamberlain is only five away from tying the all-time home run record.
Shelby Pendley followed Chamberlain's act with the first of her three homers, a solo shot to nearly the exact same spot in the bleachers. Later in the inning, Kady Self's single down the right field line made it 4-0.
A five-run fifth then blew the game wide open.
With one out, Nicole Pendley and Chamberlain hit back-to-back singles. That brought Shelby Pendley back up and she drilled a three-run homer to center field for her 12th career multi-home run game. Leading 7-0, junior Erin Miller was hit by a pitch and scored two pitches later when Parker doubled to center field. Parker later scored on a fielder's choice to push the lead to 9-0.
After a scoreless third, OU added two more runs in the fourth.
Shelby Pendley led off the inning with her third homer of the game. After going to right center and center field in her first two home runs, her final home run went to left on a 3-2 pitch. Two batters later, Parker hit her fourth homer of the year to give the Sooners' their final run of the game.
Oklahoma returns to action on Sunday with two more games. First up is a rematch against East Carolina at 12:15 p.m., before OU closes out the day against Iowa at 2:30 p.m.
