LEXINGTON, Ky. – University of Oklahoma volleyball middle blocker Marion Hazelwood earned a spot on the American Volleyball Coaches Association All-Southwest First Team as announced by the AVCA on Tuesday. A sophomore from Beach City, Texas, Hazelwood is a two-time AVCA All-Southwest selection; the first Sooner to earn All-Region in each of the first two seasons of her career.
At the conclusion of the regular season, Hazelwood was the lone played from OU to earn All-Big 12 honors with a First Team selection. In 2014, Hazelwood was named to the All-Big 12 Freshman Team as well as AVCA All-Southwest First Team, AVCA All-Southwest Rookie of the Year and AVCA All-America Honorable Mention.
Hazelwood is the seventh player in program history to achieve All-Region status more than once in her career. Since Santiago Restrepo took over the program in 2004, the Sooners have placed 17 players on the AVCA All-Region team.
This season, Hazelwood was dominant on both sides of the net; particularly during conference play. Overall, she averaged 2.21 kills and 1.09 blocks per sets, while hitting a team-best .348. Against Big 12 opponents, her numbers were up to 2.61 kills and 1.17 blocks per set as she hit an impressive .387. Hazelwood's 2015 hitting percentage ranks third all-time at OU in the 25-point, rally-scoring era (2008-present) and 10th overall.
Hazelwood started all 28 matches for the Sooners and played in all 108 sets on the season. She matched her career-high with 15 kills and marked a new career-high in blocks with 11 at Kansas State (11/15). She reached double-digits in kills on seven occasions and hit .300 or better in 18 matches, including 13 of 16 conference matches.
Through two seasons, Hazelwood has totaled 490 career kills and 222 blocks.
