IRVING, Texas – University of Oklahoma volleyball senior outside hitter Kierra Holst (Coppell, Texas) and freshman setter Audrey Alford (Norman, Okla.) claimed the Big 12 Offensive and Rookie of the Week honors as announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon. For Holst, is marked the third such award of her career, while Alford earned her second in as many weeks.
Holst, an All-Big 12 First Team selection a year ago, previously won two Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week honors in 2014. Last week, she tallied a match-leading 17 kills on a .367 attack rate as the Sooners swept past TCU at home on Saturday. She averaged 5.67 kills per set and added five digs. Holst has reached double figures in eight of 13 conference matches and led the Sooners in kills in four of the last five matches.
In her fourth consecutive start, Alford dished out 39 assists, averaging 13.0 per set. She chipped in with five digs, two blocks assists and a service ace. The award marks Alford's second, the fourth overall by an OU freshman and the first time a Sooner has won multiple Rookie of the Week awards since Julia Doyle (Plymouth, Minn.) claimed three in 2012.
Oklahoma is at home for its final three matches of the season over the next four days. The action gets underway Tuesday night against West Virginia at 7:00 pm.
