NORMAN – Fueled by four double-digit scoring performances, the No. 17/18 Oklahoma women's basketball team opened its season, the 20th for head coach Sherri Coale, with a 78-48 victory over Winthrop on Friday night inside Lloyd Noble Center.

Redshirt junior Peyton Little (game-high 17 points), junior Derica Wyatt (16 points), redshirt senior Kaylon Williams (13 points) and sophomore Vionise Pierre-Louis (10 points) all reached double figures for the Sooners.

Little, who went 7 for 13 from the floor, added four assists, three steals and a rebound in 27 minutes of action. Wyatt recorded 11 of her points in the first half, reaching double digits after posting just two such games last season. The junior knocked down a game-high four 3-pointers from behind the arc.

The Sooners (1-0) led the entire contest and used several runs to pull away from the Eagles, including an 11-0 one in a 2:09 stretch in the first quarter to build a 16-4 lead. Winthrop (0-1) cut OU's advantage down to 38-30 with 5:50 left in the third quarter, but the Sooners outscored the Eagles 40-18 over the rest of the game to secure the win.

The Sooners' defense looked strong throughout the night, turning 21 Winthrop turnovers into 38 points and giving up just 18 second-half points. OU limited the Eagles to 38.9 shooting percentage (21 for 54) and just 12.5 percent from 3-point range (1 for 8).

Led by Williams on the glass with a game-high seven boards, the Sooners outrebounded the Eagles by a mark of 42 to 22. Junior T'ona Edwards and junior Shaya Kellogg both grabbed six rebounds.

Eleven Sooners saw action in the game, all entering in the first half, with nine recording points. OU got 35 points from its bench players and went 30 for 56 from the field (53.6 percent), including 8 for 17 from 3-point range (47.1 percent). It marked the second time in their last three games that the Sooners shot over 50 percent, dating back to the 2015 NCAA Tournament.

In home openers under Coale, the Sooners have posted a 17-3 record.

The Sooners return to the court at 7 p.m. CT on Monday, Nov. 16, as they host North Texas. Tickets are available online here or by calling the OU Athletics Ticket Office at (800) 456-GoOU.
