NORMAN, Okla. – The Oklahoma volleyball team hits the road for its first of two away matches this week at Kansas State. The Sooners look to even the season series with the Wildcats Wednesday, November 11 at 7:00 pm.

Oklahoma has lost back-to-back four set matches to Iowa State and No. 10 Kansas. The Sooners are 8-14 overall and 2-8 in the Big 12, including a 0-5 conference mark on the road. Junior middle blocker Micaela Spann and sophomore middle blocker Marion Hazelwood are coming off a steady performance against KU with both hitting over .400 and reaching double figures in kills. Spann is hitting a team-high .330 with 2.22 kills and 1.02 blocks per set. Hazelwood owns a .317 attack rate, including .352 in conference play, with 1.93 kills and 1.01 blocks per set. Junior outside hitter Kimmy Gardiner has posted a team-high nine double-doubles, while averaging 2.60 kills and 2.44 digs per set. Redshirt-junior outside hitter Madison Ward is second with eight at 2.97 kills and 2.65 digs per set.

Kansas State has won four matches in a row and six of its last seven, five of which have come by way of a sweep, all in Big 12 play, to lift its record to 15-8 overall and 7-4 in the conference. Brooke Sassin averages a team-leading 3.54 kills per set to go with 2.86 digs per set. Setter Katie Brand runs the offense to the tune of 11.23 assists per set, while Kersten Kober leads the defense with 4.39 digs per set. Brand as also made an impact on the offense at the net with 1.21 kills per set on a .368 attack rate.

Last Time They Met

Oklahoma fell to Kansas State at home on October 16 as it was swept for the first time all season. The Wildcats took the straight-sets victory; 25-16, 25-21 and 25-19. Senior setter Julia Doyle recorded the 4,000th assist of her career on a kill by senior outside hitter Kierra Holst. Spann knocked down 10 kills on a .400 attack rate, while Hazelwood hit a team-high .538 on eight kills. On the block, K-State totaled 13 to OU's three. Katie Reininger posted seven to lead all players.

All-Time vs. K-State

The Sooners hold a significant advantage over the Wildcats in the all-time series, 53-28-1. OU twice defeated a ranked K-State squad in 2012 and earned a split in the season series in 2013 and 2014. Since 2006, Oklahoma has won 13 of 19 match-ups. The first contest between the two programs was a 1-1 tie in Lawrence, Kan. in 1975. The home team has won eight of the last 10 match-ups and has won four straight until this season.

Set for the Future

Freshman setter Audrey Alford made her first career start against No. 10 Kansas (11/7). It ended a stretch of 107 starts for Doyle dating back to 2012. Alford dished out a season-high 37 assists in a four-set loss to go with seven digs. The Sooners have split between a 5-1 and 6-2 offense this season and are 1-8 when running the 5-1 and 7-6 in its 6-2. For the season, Alford averages 5.07 assists and 1.16 digs per set, while Doyle averages 7.50 and 1.94.

A Volleyball Feast

The final week of the regular season sees Oklahoma play at home four times in seven days around Thanksgiving. The Sooners host TCU on Saturday, November 21 before back-to-back matches against West Virginia. OU and WVU play match one, which was originally scheduled for October 24 in Morgantown, on Tuesday, November 24. Match two between the two sides is a day later on Wednesday, November 25. Finally, the regular season comes to a close against Texas on Friday, November 27 at 3:00 pm. Admission to the TCU match and the first West Virginia match will be free.
