IRVING, Texas – University of Oklahoma volleyball freshman Madison Drescher has been named the Big 12 Co-Rookie of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon. Drescher, an outside hitter from Southlake, Texas, claimed the first weekly away of her career and the second of the season for the Sooners. Texas' Yaazie Bedart-Ghani shared this week's honor withe Drescher.
Drescher provided a spark off the bench in the Sooners' 6-2 rotation this week by hitting .385 with a 2.38 kills per set average. She finished the week second on the team with 19 kills to just four errors on 39 total attacks. Drescher opener the week with seven kills against Iowa State and finished the week with 12 kills and just one error against Baylor as she hit .550. Defensively, she added 10 blocks and six digs averaging 1.25 and 0.75 per set, respectively.
For the season, Drescher is hitting .246, while averaging 1.40 kills and 0.74 blocks per set.
Drescher and fellow freshman outside hitter Alyssa Enneking have claimed each of the Sooners' weekly awards this season. They are the first freshman due in program history to claim Rookie of the Week honors in the same season and the first in the Big 12 since 2013.
