NORMAN – The University of Oklahoma women's golf team moved up two spots after the third and final round of the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational to finish in ninth place at 895 (+31). The event was played at the par-72, 6,298-yard University of Texas Golf Club in Austin, Texas.
The Sooners registered a tournament-best 294 (+6) in Tuesday's round. No. 8-ranked Kent State was the only team under par for the tournament and finished at the top of the leaderboard with an 859 (-5). Texas Tech took second place at 3 over and No. 22 UNLV came in third with an 873 (+9).
Sophomores Ana Ruiz, Valerie Tanguay and Hannah Wood led the Sooners, each firing a 222 (+6) in the event to share 20th place out of 75 competitors. Ruiz and Tanguay both carded a 75 (+3) in Tuesday's round, while Wood recorded a 69 (-3), her sixth par-or-better round of the season.
OU's Rylee Pedigo registered a 75 (+3) in the final round, finishing at 229 (+13) to tie for 47th place. Freshman Julienne Soo finished in 73rd place with a 244 (+28) after shooting an 82 (+10) on Tuesday.
"We played much better today," seventh-year OU Head Coach Veronique Drouin-Luttrell said. "It's very encouraging for us to see these girls fight to the end of tournaments."
The Sooners have a quick turnaround as they return to the course this weekend (Oct. 25-27) in San Antonio, Texas, for the 2015 Alamo Invitational.
