The second half of the Big 12 schedule gets underway when the Red Raiders visit the Sooners on Wednesday, October 28.

NORMAN, Okla. – Oklahoma volleyball is at Kansas for its first of two road matches this week. The Sooners take on the Jayhawks Wednesday night at 6:30 pm at the Horesji Center in Lawrence, Kansas.

Oklahoma is 7-11 overall and 1-5 in the Big 12 after suffering its first sweep of the season at the hands of Kansas State at home on Friday. Junior middle blocker Micaela Spann is hitting a team-best .364 with 2.19 kills and a team-high 1.15 blocks per set. Oklahoma, which has lost seven of nine, features an offensive attack with five players averaging better than two kills per set. Redshirt-junior outside hitter Madison Ward (2.92) is first on the team followed by junior outside hitter Kimmy Gardiner (2.16). Gardiner has recorded a team-leading eight double-doubles, which ranks fourth in the Big 12.

Kansas is up to No. 7 in the latest AVCA Coaches' Poll with a perfect 18-0 record, including a 6-0 mark in the Big 12. The Jayhawks have yet to be pushed to a fifth set all season and have only lost two sets against conference opponents. Kelsie Payne is hitting .400 with a 3.95 kills per set average; both of which lead the team. Tiana Dockery (3.25) and Madison Rigdon (3.10) are also over three kills per set. Setter Ainise Havili ranks second in the nation with a 12.25 assists per set average to go with 2.78 digs per set. Libero Cassie Wait leads KU at 4.75 digs per set.

Last Time They Met

Oklahoma came from behind to force a fifth, but was downed by a 5-0 run in the fifth that led to a 3-2 defeat at Kansas in the 2014 regular season finale. Playing for sole possession of second in the Big 12, OU dropped to a tie with KU. Kierra Holst powered the Sooners with an 18-kill effort, while recording the 1,000th kill of her career. Marion Hazelwood finished second for OU with 17 kills on a .379 attack rate. Kansas totaled 20.5 blocks in the win; led by 13 from Tayler Soucie.

All-Time vs. Kansas

Oklahoma leads the all-time series, 48-33. Kansas swept the season-series in 2012 and won its third in a row against the Sooners in Lawrence on October 9, 2013. OU ended that streak with a 3-1 win at home on November 20, 2013 for its first win over the Jayhawks since sweeping the season series in 2011. The series started with a 2-0 OU win in 1976. The last two times the two teams have met with Kansas ranked, Oklahoma won at home against No. 23 KU in 2014 and at home against #21 KU in 2013.

4,000 Dimes

Senior setter Julia Doyle became the fifth player in OU history to reach 4,000 career assists. It came on her 23rd of the night against Kansas State (10/17) on a kill for Holst. She entered the season ranked sixth at Oklahoma and passed Rachel Jackson (2003-06) for fifth earlier in the season. Doyle is the Big 12 active career leader with 4,003 assists.

Vs. The Ranked

The Sooners are winless in five tries against ranked opponents this season, including 0-4 against the Top-10. Under head coach Santiago Restrepo, Oklahoma owns a 21-77 (.214) record against ranked teams. Over a stretch of six NCAA Tournament seasons, the Sooners went 15-34 (.306) vs. ranked teams. After an 0-19 record in his first two seasons at Oklahoma, Restrepo and the Sooners are 21-58 (.266) against teams in the Top-25. OU's last win over a ranked opponent was at No. 2 Texas (10/25/14).
