Sooners Hold Seventh after Round One In Georgia

NORMAN—After the first round of the U.S. Collegiate Championship, the No. 10 Oklahoma men's golf team holds seventh place with a 289 (+1). The three-day, 54-hole tournament is being played at the par-72, 2,017-yard Lakeside Course at the Golf Club of Georgia in Alpharetta, Ga.
No. 4 Florida State shot a 282 (-6) and leads the competitive 17-team field, which includes 15 teams ranked in the Golfweek/Sagarin top 50 and seven in the top 10. No. 27 Virginia is in second place with a 283 (-5), and one stroke behind the Cavaliers is No. 3 Wake Forest. No. 2 Auburn holds fourth place with a 285 (-3), and No. 16 Georgia Tech and No. 20 Clemson share fifth with a 286 (-2).
Sophomore Grant Hirschman leads the Sooners after carding a 70 (-2) on Friday. He shot five birdies on the day and is in a tie for seventh place overall.
Classmate Rylee Reinertson sits in a tie for 25th after firing an even 72 for the first round. The sophomore shot three birdies in his first four holes of the round and collected four total for the day.
After shooting a 73 (+1), freshman Brad Dalke has a share of 36th place. Senior Luke Kwon sits one stroke behind Dalke and is in 48th. Both golfers pocketed three birdies during the round.
Senior Beau Titsworth and junior Max McGreevy are in a tie for 67th with a 77 (+5) in the first round. Titsworth is competing as an individual and is unattached from team scoring.
“We really had a chance today to get at the top but just couldn't quite finish it off,” OU head coach Ryan Hybl said. “We have to execute better tomorrow on the easier holes, and we will be in good shape. We are ready to do something good tomorrow.”
Round two of the U.S. Collegiate is slated to begin Saturday morning. The Sooners' tee times begin at 7 a.m. CT. Live scoring will be available at Golfstat.com.
