Hazelwood brought home some hardware after her freshman season. She earned Big 12 All-Rookie honors as well as being voted the AVCA Southwest Freshman of the Year. Against Texas Tech, she set the OU single match hitting record with a .737 attack rate.

Ahead of the Sooners nationally televised match against Kansas State at McCasland Field House on Friday, October 16, sophomore middle blocker Marion Hazelwood sat down with SoonerSports.com for a quick Q&A session.

What has been your favorite moment as an OU volleyball player?

Beating Texas last year. That was pretty fun. The whole game, we played really well, played together and were having fun. It wasn't just winning, but having fun doing it. The fact that I got to help create that win and that moment was amazing. I had a lot of friends and family there that saw it, which also made it cool.

Who has had the biggest impact on you to pursue playing college volleyball?

My oldest sister, Aly. I wasn't really considering playing D-I. I always thought I would go to Trinity and play, like all of my sisters. For a while, I didn't realize that I could, but she gave me confidence and helped me with my aggression and competitiveness. I really couldn't have done it without her.

What is the best part of the OU volleyball game day experience?

Hanging out in the locker room when we have to be here before warming up for pregame. We get to hang out, listen to music, eat sweets, even though we're not supposed to, before the game. It makes you realize that your team is much more than your teammates and that they're like your sisters.

How does the team stay loose before a match?

I dance. Kierra reads, so that's her thing, but a lot of us dance and we're just goofy.

Is there a celebrity or super hero that you relate to most?

Kristen Wiig. I love Kristen Wiig. Her characters from SNL. She has the tiny hands skits – those are my favorite skits on SNL and I'm considering being her for Halloween. She is hilarious and I love her.

If you could trade places with an OU athlete for a day, who would it be?

Probably either Baker, because he gets to experience the atmosphere of playing in a huge game every week, or Lauren Chamberlain. She got to go to the ESPYs. That's pretty cool.

If you and a teammate sang a karaoke duet, who would it be with and what song?

It would probably be with Leslie. Party in the USA is always my go-to, but maybe a Backstreet Boys song.
