NORMAN, Okla. – University of Oklahoma head coach Bob Stoops confirmed Tuesday that assistant coaches Josh Heupel and Jay Norvell will not be back with the Oklahoma Football program. Stoops also announced that defensive line coach Jerry Montgomery will take on additional responsibilities as co-defensive coordinator along with Mike Stoops.
"I'm more determined than ever to get Oklahoma back in the position to competing for national championships like we have so many other times."

“They're great people, they're great family men,” Stoops said of Heupel and Norvell. “I thank them though for what they have contributed and their dedication and hard work through all these years, and I'm sure they'll continue to have successful coaching careers as they move forward.”
Stoops indicated that no decisions have been made relative to filling the open positions on his staff. Montgomery joined the Sooners in 2013 after a two-year stint at Michigan. A four-year starter as a defensive tackle at the University of Iowa from 1998-2001, Montgomery coached the defensive line at Wyoming (2009-10) and Northern Iowa (2007-08) prior to his tenure with the Wolverines.
“I just want to also say I'm more determined than ever to get Oklahoma back in the position to competing for national championships like we have so many other times,” Stoops added. “I promise you I'm as dedicated and committed as I ever have been since the day I walked in here. I have a lot invested in this program and no one cares about it more than I do, and I'm anxious and excited moving forward to make improvements and get us back in the position where we're competing for national championships like we have so many other times.”
