Perine Attends ESPN Sport Science Awards

NORMAN, Okla. – Oklahoma running back Samaje Perine will be at the Herberger Theatre in Phoenix on Friday as part of the second annual ESPN Sport Science Newton Awards. Perine has been nominated in the category of “Outstanding New Limit” for his FBS-record 427-yard rushing performance last season against Kansas, as he also accumulated five touchdowns in a 44-7 victory.

Named in honor of Sir Isaac Newton, the ESPN Sport Science Newton Awards honor athletic achievements in 10 different categories and will be televised in primetime at a later date. ESPN Sport Science is a groundbreaking television franchise that brings viewers amazing insights into athletic performance from a scientific viewpoint. The Emmy Award-winning TV series, hosted by John Brenkus, uncovers sports' biggest myths and mysteries by using cutting-edge technology to measure momentum, friction and the laws of gravity.

Perine is a native of Pflugerville, Texas, who prepped at Hendrickson High School. Perine led the Big 12 in rushing in 2014, totaling 1,713 yards, which placed him fifth on the OU all-time single-season rushing chart. The freshman also scored 21 touchdowns, a Big 12 record for rushing touchdowns in a season by a freshman. Perine received All-Big 12 First Team honors from both the conference's coaches and AP. He was also named the Big 12 Offensive Freshman of the Year and AP Big 12 Offensive Newcomer of the Year.
