On Sterling Shepard:
“The biggest thing with Sterling (Shepard) is his maturity. He's really matured, and he's broadened his focus to where he's really more accountable to the entire team - not just being a wide receiver doing his job.”
On his impressions of wide receivers Michiah Quick and Mark Andrews:
“(Michiah) Quick is like his name – very quick. He's a very mature player. He learns things easily and quickly. Guys that are football players tend to do that, and he has those types of qualities, which is exciting.
“Mark Andrews is a big, intelligent, tough, athletic guy, who is really difficult to handle out there. I am very pleased with his progress.”
On what made him believe that OU is the place to be for wide receiver Dorial Green-Beckham:
“He became available, and we had a relationship with him. We felt like we knew the factors that were important for him to have success, and we felt like we could put him in that kind of environment. So those are the major things. He's a talent, and we felt like he could really help our football team. We really felt like he was just like the rest of our kids. He's made some mistakes at times, shown some immaturity at times, but we really felt like in the right environment that he could mature and turn into a fine student and a good guy in the locker room and on the field.”
