NORMAN, Okla. --The 10th-ranked University of Oklahoma women's golf team finished Sunday's third and final round of the elite 15-team PING/ASU Invitational tied for 11th place, jumping one spot from its second-day finish. The Sooners carded a 294 (+6) in the third round of the event, which was played at the 6,223-yard, par-72 ASU Karsten Golf Course in Tempe, Ariz.
OU, which began the day on hole 10, finished the tournament with a 54-hole 893 (+29). Seventh-ranked South Carolina won the event with an 853 (-11), while No. 3 Duke, No. 6 Arizona State and No. 11 Washington each shot an 859 (-5) to tie for second place.
Senior Anne-Catherine Tanguay, who led the Sooners throughout the weekend, shot a team-low 71 (-1) in the third round to finish the tournament at -1. She rebounded from double-bogeys on holes 16 and 18 by playing holes 1 through 9 at 3 under par. Tanguay recorded 46 par-or-better holes in the tournament and finished tied for 10th place out of 81 competitors.
OU's Alexandra Kaui saved her best round of the tournament for last, carding a 73 (+1) on the day. The freshman recorded a 54-hole 226 (+10) en route to a 52nd-place tie.
Chirapat Jao-Javanil also played her best round on Sunday, logging an even-par 72. Fellow OU senior Emily Collins logged a day-three 79 (+7). The duo finished the tournament tied for 54th place at +11.
OU's Kaitlyn Rohrback shot a 78 (+6) on Sunday and a 234 (+18) for the tournament. The senior finished tied for 69th place.
Sooners' head coach Veronique Drouin-Luttrell said she was proud of how her squad finished the tournament.
“We played more relaxed today,” Drouin-Luttrell said. “We saw some great shots out there. AC (Tanguay) finished strong with a top-10 finish individually. We have a couple weeks to prepare before we head to the Big 12 Championship and we will be continuing to work hard toward our goals.”
The PING/ASU Invitational marked OU's last event of regular season play. The Sooners will return to the course April 25-27 for the Big 12 Championship in Austin, Texas.
