Foster Closes Texas Relays for Sooners

AUSTIN, Texas – Sophomore thrower Kate Foster finished seventh in section B of the discus competition at the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays in Austin on Saturday.

Foster, who was the only Sooner to compete in the meet's final day, posted a 155-3.00 en route to her finish. She was one of only two finalists to record six legal throws in the competition

The Sooners found success in the field events all weekend, putting four athletes in the top five of their respective competitions. In addition to the field events, OU's distance medley relay team finished fourth on Friday night.

Head coach Jim VanHootegem acknowledges that while the Sooners did not have the outing they planned, they are not looking down, but looking forward.

“We struggled a little bit, but that is why you go to these meets, to get better and prepare for the meets moving forward,” VanHootegem explained. “We need to move on to the next meet of the season, no matter what. We are a patient team and we are not panicked or anything. We have a lot of time and we are all working on getting better.”

Oklahoma will send competitors to two meets next weekend, the third week of the outdoor season. Some Sooners will head to Palo Alto, Calif., to compete in the two-day Stanford Invitational while others head to Tuscaloosa, Ala. for the Crimson Tide Invitational on Saturday.
