#FlashbackFriday: Switzer's Supremecy

December 12, 2014 | Football

Sooner Sports TV's year-long "Flashback Fridays"? series continues this month with a look at Coach Switzer's Sooners. Throughout the month, Sooner Sports TV celebrates the storied career of college football's “King” ? Barry Switzer.

Although a first-time head coach in 1973, a young Switzer took over the Oklahoma football program amid high expectations. It didn't take long for the King to establish his reign, and kickstart a career that has gone down as one of the most storied chapters in college football's history.

This holiday season, SoonerVision's popular “History of Oklahoma Football” documentary will air the television debut of the third installment in the series ? Dynasty of Championships. Narrator Spencer Tillman walks viewers through his era, stopping along the way to remember the greats such as Billy Sims, Joe Washington, Jack Mildren and the Selmon brothers. Exclusive interviews with Coach Switzer and the late Chuck Fairbanks help to paint the picture of how Oklahoma become the nation's favorite college football team.

This Friday, in honor of the 2014 Sooners' bowl berth against the Clemson Tigers, Sooner Sport TV brings you a re-air of Coach Switzer's final game at Oklahoma ? against the Tigers in Orlando, Florida. Heading into the Citrus Bowl matchup, the Sooners had never lost to an ACC opponent. Coach Danny Ford was no stranger to tough competition, and with the Sooner's starting quarterback sidelined, the game was certain to go down as a classic defensive battle.
