Members of the Oklahoma football team were asked to share what the deciding factor was on attending the University of Oklahoma during the recruiting process. Here are some of their responses.
“It's a powerhouse program in a big-time conference. You can't come in here and fake your ability. You have to come in and be a real guy. The coaches teach you and get you ready to reach that ability.”
“For any guy that gets an offer to come play football at Oklahoma, it is a dream come true. I knew that I had great opportunities here and that it would be a great place for me.”
“The tradition here is incredible. Coming here as a quarterback, Coach [Josh] Heupel had a lot to do with my decision because of how he had developed quarterbacks in the past. Just how awesome it is to play for a program and university like Oklahoma.”
“Seeing the stadium, it is huge, and when I saw it I loved it. The campus is great and the city is pretty chill. When I came to visit, I realized there was a lot of tradition from all the past players. It's a brotherhood and a family.”
“The brotherhood. All the guys that were here when I came to visit made me realize I wanted to be here with those guys. Just seeing how the players interacted with each other was great. I knew when I came on my visit that this was the place I wanted to be. I wore my recruiting bracelet for a long time after I went on my visit as motivation to keep working hard to get here.”
“Coach [Bobby Jack] Wright, when he talked to me, I could tell that he had interest in making me a better player and person. Coming in without much football experience, I could tell he believed in me. Once I got here he took me under his wing and made sure I was understanding the game, whether it was extra time in the film room or going over plays. Once I was here to visit, I knew this was the place for me.”
“I took a trip with my family up here and after we went through the visit we got back in the car and just knew this was the right place. I just had a feeling this is where I was supposed to be. It just felt right. It is the campus, the coaches, the environment, the tradition, all of those played a role in making me feel at home. I just had the feeling that this was where I was supposed to be.”
“There was only one reason and it was Coach Mike and Bob Stoops. When I talked to them they always gave me a reason on why they needed me here. It was never 'Don't go here or there,' it was just they wanted me here. I genuinely felt like I belonged here because of them.”
“What personally sold me was definitely the history and the tradition and knowing that OU is good year in and year out. That was a big factor. When I was getting recruited they told me I was going to do exactly what Trey Millard did. I had no clue who Trey Millard was but when I looked him up and found out he was so versatile and did the things I did in high school, it kind of worked out perfectly. That's what I needed to do to succeed at the next level.”
