IRVING, Texas – University of Oklahoma freshman Marion Hazelwood was named the Big 12 Volleyball Rookie of the Week as announced by the conference on Monday afternoon. The award marks the first of Hazelwood's career and the fifth garnered by the Sooners this season.

Hazelwood, a 6-foot-3 middle blocker from Beach City, Texas, hit a team-leading .583 with a 3.12 kills per set average in a 2-0 week for the Sooners. She totaled 25 kills to just four errors on 36 attempts. Against Central Arkansas, she registered 13, while hitting .579 and in a sweep over Texas Tech she posted 12 and hit .588. For the week, she averaged 1.00 blocks per set.

On the season, Hazelwood is averaging 2.19 kills per set and leads Oklahoma with a .322 attack rate as well as a 0.91 blocks per set average. In September, she was named to the NIKE Invitational All-Tournament Team and on October 15 she set a program-record for hitting percentage in a five-set match with .737 against Texas Tech.

The last Sooner to earn All-Big 12 Rookie of the Week was Julia Doyle, who did so three times in 2012. All four of the previous honors won by OU were Offensive Player of the Week; won twice each by Kierra Holst and Madison Ward.
