Nineteen Sooners Named Academic All-Big 12

NORMAN, Okla. – Nineteen Oklahoma Football student-athletes were named to the 2014 Academic All-Big 12 team, the conference announced Thursday. Oklahoma had 11 first-team selections and eight second-team selections.

The list of Oklahoma selections were highlighted by quarterback Trevor Knight and center Ty Darlington, who were both named Capital One Academic All-District honorees as chosen by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) earlier this month.

First-team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA while the second team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA. To qualify student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of their team's scheduled contests.

Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.

University of Oklahoma student-athletes set an all-time record with a 3.06 cumulative grade point average (GPA) across all 21 sports during the fall 2013 semester (with cross country, indoor and outdoor track considered separate programs for men and women).

Including the spring 2014 semester, OU student-athletes have registered a cumulative GPA over 3.00 for five consecutive semesters. That cumulative GPA reflects the overall academic performance of those student-athletes from their first semester of their collegiate enrollment through the completion of the spring 2014 term.
