The Sooners face their first Big 12 road test of the season at West Virginia on Wednesday evening.

IRVING, Texas – University of Oklahoma volleyball redshirt-sophomore Madison Ward was named the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week as announced by the conference on Monday afternoon. The award is the first weekly honor of her career and the second straight for the Sooners.

An outside hitter from Lawton, Okla., Ward matched her career-high with 18 kills and hit .471, with only two errors on 34 attempts, in a 3-0 sweep over TCU at home on Wednesday night. She added a team-high 11 digs for her team-leading fifth double-double of the season.

Ward has tallied a career-high 18 kills in four matches this season and last did so in a five-set, come-from-behind upset of No. 23 Kansas on September 27.

On the season, Ward is averaging 2.77 kills per set and hitting at a rate of .226. She also ranks second on the team at 2.39 digs per set and has chipped in with 22 blocks, 15 service aces and 15 assists. In Big 12 play, Ward is hitting an impressive .425 through two matches, while averaging 4.50 kills and 3.25 digs per set.

Following a freshman season cut short by injuries, Ward bounced back to earn a spot on the All-Big 12 Freshman Team at the conclusion of the 2013 season.

Ward became the second straight Sooner to earn a weekly honor from the Big 12 after junior outside hitter Kierra Holst (Coppell, Texas) claimed Offensive Player of the Week a week ago.

Oklahoma is on the road at West Virginia on Wednesday night and against at Iowa State Sunday afternoon in a match that will be televised nationally on ESPNU.
