NORMAN -- The University of Oklahoma women's golf team finished Tuesday's final round of the 54-hole Alamo Invitational tied for ninth place. The 15-team event was played at the 6,428-yard, par-72 Briggs Ranch Golf Club in San Antonio, Texas.
The Sooners recorded a three-day 877 (+13) and finished 36 strokes behind tournament champion and 23rd-ranked LSU (-23). No. 7 Arkansas finished in second place at 16 under and No. 17 Auburn placed third at -14.
Freshman Ana Ruiz led the Sooners, carding a 220 (+4) and tying for 32nd place out of 78 competitors. It marked the second straight event in which Ruiz was OU's top finisher.
OU freshmen Rylee Pedigo and Hannah Wood tied for 37th place, each shooting a 221 (+5). The finish was the best of Pedigo's career, while Wood's even-par round was the Sooners' best of the final day.
Sophomore Alexandra Kaui tied for 44th place at 222 (+6) and sophomore Maggie Neece shot a 227 (+11) to finish tied for 62nd place.
Sixth-year OU head coach Veronique Drouin-Luttrell said her squad showed improvement from its first two events this season.
“We played better as a team and it's very encouraging going into the last event of the fall this upcoming weekend,” Drouin-Luttrell said.” These last few rounds should be confidence boosters for us.”
The Sooners will return to the course this Sunday through Tuesday (Nov. 2-4) for the Jim West Invitational in San Antonio, Texas.
