SOONER NOTEBOOK: NOTES FOR WEEK 10

1. RIVALRY RENEWED
Oklahoma will play its second rivalry match in as many weeks on Friday night, facing off with Red River foe Texas in the annual Kick for a Cure match in Norman. The weekend is yet another split stand, with the Sooners hitting the road on Sunday for a contest in Morgantown against the West Virginia Mountaineers. Both matches will receive national broadcasts, with Friday's contest appearing on FSSW+ and FCS Atlantic, and Sunday's match broadcasting on ROOT Sports Pittsburgh.

2. DOUBLE DOWN
Oklahoma has yet to concede more than two goals in a match this season, but is 0-4-0 when it does allow a brace. The Sooners will look to tighten up the defensive ranks this weekend against two potent offensive attacks: West Virginia's 36 goals are the most in the conference, and Texas has the Big 12's No. 2 shot total in conference play (95).

3. NOTHING COMES EASY
OU is entering one of its toughest stretches of play in 2014 to close the regular season. Oklahoma's three remaining opponents boast a combined conference record of 10-6-2, while West Virginia and Kansas are both ranked in the top 15 nationally. OU enters those contests with a 2-1-0 record against top-15 teams after defeating then-No. 6 Florida and then-No. 10 Texas Tech earlier this season.

4. TAKING SHAPE
With just two weekends left in the regular season, the field for next month's Big 12 Championships is beginning to take shape. Iowa State will need victories in at least two of its last three matches for a shot to break into the championship field, but seeding is still unclear. The Big 12's top-three teams are separated by only a point , as are its fourth- through eighth-place squads. The Big 12 tournament will take place at Swope Soccer Village in Kansas City, Mo.

5. CHASING THE POSTSEASON
At 8-5-3 overall, Oklahoma is in a crucial stretch to determine its postseason fate with three regular season contests and the Big 12 Tournament ahead. OU owns two NCAA Tournament appearances all time, making first round appearances in both 2003 and 2010. Head coach Matt Potter owns three career NCAA appearances, all with Washington State and the last coming in 2011.
