Manhattan, Kan. Wednesday, October 22 | 7:00 pm The Sooners hit the road for a major test against No. 25 Kansas State; the first of two opponents next week in the current Top-25. |
NORMAN, Okla. – Oklahoma volleyball hosts Baylor at McCasland Field House Saturday night at 7:00 pm. Admission to the match is free.
The Sooners bounced back from their first conference loss with a 3-1 win over Texas Tech to improve to 13-5 overall and 4-1 in the Big 12. For the season, junior outside hitter Kierra Holst is leading the OU attack with 3.25 kills per set followed by redshirt-sophomore Madison Ward at 2.97. Freshman middle blocker Marion Hazelwood has made an immediate impact in her first half season of collegiate play with a 2.30 kills and 0.90 blocks per set average. In the Big 12, she is hitting a team-high .376 and averaging 2.35 kills per set. Junior setter Julia Doyle commands the Sooner offense to the tune of 10.39 assists per set and junior libero Taylor Migliazzo leads the back row with 3.58 digs per set. As a team, Oklahoma ranks third in the Big 12 with a cumulative .261 hitting percentage. The Sooners also rank second in service aces per set at 1.42, led by Holst at 0.49.
Admission to Saturday night's match will be the second “Fan Appreciation Night” of the season with free admission. Those in attendance will have the opportunity to be entered to win an on-field pregame experience at an upcoming football game.
Saturday's match will be streamed exclusively on SoonerSports.tv.
Since arriving for the 2014 spring semester, Hazelwood had taken on the task of replacing three-time All-American Sallie McLaurin. Through 17 matches, the freshman middle blocker had been a steady presence for OU, but emerged with a breakout performance against Texas Tech (10/15) in the 18th match of the season. Hazelwood posted a season-high 15 kills and committed just one error on 19 attempts, including just two in the third of four sets. Her .737 hitting percentage marked a new program record for a four-set match and was the highest for a Sooner since McLaurin hit .722 against Alabama A&M (9/13/13).
Oklahoma hits the road twice next week for its two biggest challenges of the conference slate to this point in the season. On Wednesday, the Sooners visit No. 25 Kansas State at 7:00 pm followed by a road match at No. 2 Texas on Saturday, October 25.
