Sanchez Named Big 12 Defensive POW

October 13, 2014 | Football

NORMAN -- The Big 12 Conference announced Monday that sophomore cornerback Zack Sanchez has been named the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week. Sanchez tied a career high with eight tackles and returned an interception for a 43-yard touchdown in a 31-26 victory vs. Texas. He leads the Big 12 with five interceptions on the season.

Sanchez was named a Freshman All-America selection in 2013 and registered his first career interception in a 41-31 victory at Kansas State. He returned that ball for a 74-yard touchdown. Dating back to that contest, he owns seven interceptions over the last nine games, the best mark of any FBS player over that span. The Ft. Worth, Texas, native has 25 tackles (18 solo) and three pass breakups to go with a blocked PAT return that resulted in two points.
