OU Set for NCAA Championships

NORMAN, Okla. -- The 25th-ranked University of Oklahoma men's golf team will compete in the NCAA Championships Tuesday through Sunday (May 28-June 2) at the 7,320-yard, par-70 Capital City Club Crabapple Course in Atlanta, Ga.

The Sooners qualified for the national tournament after tying for fifth place with South Florida at the NCAA regional played May 16-18 in Tallahassee, Fla. OU advanced after winning a playoff against South Florida on the 18th hole.

"We have been working all year for this week," OU head coach Ryan Hybl said. "All of our guys have put in the preparation needed, and we are looking forward to seeing the course. We have extra motivation this week to play for the state of Oklahoma because of the devastation that occurred last week."

The tournament field consists of 30 teams and six individuals, all of whom will compete in 54 holes of stroke play over the first three days of the tournament. Following those three rounds of competition, an individual champion will be declared. Individual finishers 2-15 will also be honored. The top eight teams will advance to the championship quarterfinals and compete in a match play tournament.

This marks OU's third straight NCAA Championships appearance and 34th overall. Last year, the Sooners finished 11th at nationals in Pacific Palisades, Calif., the program's best showing since placing ninth in 1993.

OU's lineup will feature seniors Abraham Ancer and Will Kropp, junior Michael Schoolcraft, sophomore Charlie Saxon and freshman Beau Titsworth.

The first round of the NCAA Championships is slated to begin at 7 a.m. ET Tuesday. Live scoring will be available at NCAA.com.
