NORMAN, Okla. -- Oklahoma (7-5, 5-3 Big 12) meets Stanford (8-4, 6-3 Pac-10) in the 2009 Brut Sun Bowl on December 31 in El Paso, Texas. The invitation marks the 43rd overall bowl game for the Sooners, OU's 11th consecutive under Coach Stoops and its third trip to the Sun Bowl.

Stanford's headliner is Heisman runner-up Toby Gerhart. The senior running back led the nation in rushing yards (1,736), rushing TDs (26) and runs over 10 yards (50). The Cardinal also boast one of college football's most dangerous return men in Chris Owusu, who averaged 32.5 yards per kickoff return and ran three back for touchdowns this year.

In his third season, head coach Jim Harbaugh has guided the Stanford program to one of the biggest turnarounds in the nation. After inheriting a 1-11 team in 2006, the Cardinal have shown marked improvement each year and finished tied for second in the Pac-10 in 2009.
