In his two years as an assistant coach at Oklahoma, Gerrod Chadwell has helped revive a Sooners program and make it one of the nation's best. Chadwell, an Oklahoma native, came to OU in 2010 after serving three years (2008-10) as the head coach at Redlands Community College in his home town of El Reno, Okla. Since his arrival in Norman, Chadwell has assisted head coach Veronique Drouin-Luttrell in directing the Sooners to top-five finishes in more than half of their tournaments, including 14 of 22 events in the 2010-11 and 2011-12 seasons. OU has won four team titles the past two years and has posted 11 top-three finishes in 22 tournaments. Chadwell also helped OU to an appearance at the 2011 NCAA West Regional, to the 2012 Big 12 Championship crown and to a sixth-place finish at the 2012 NCAA Championships (tied as the best in school history). Also in 2012, OU's Chirapat Jao-Javanil became the program's first national champion when she won the NCAA title by four shots with a 6-under par effort in Franklin, Tenn. During Chadwell's stint at Redlands C.C., he led the Lady Cougars to National Junior College Athletic Association titles in 2008 and 2009, and to a third-place finish in 2010 after claiming the regional title by 94 strokes. He was named national coach of the year in both 2008 and 2009. |
