A member of the University of Oklahoma golf family since 1978, head coach Carol Ludvigson has established herself as one of the nation's premier collegiate golf mentors and has the OU program primed for another successful season.

In her 24th year as Oklahoma's head coach, Ludvigson has seen her fair share of success during the Sooners' recent run of athletics achievement.

In the fall of 2007, Ludvigson led the Sooners to victories at the Badger Women's Golf Invitational and the Price's "Give `Em Five" Intercollegiate. That fall performance led to a fifth-place finish at the 2008 Big 12 Championships and an invitation to the NCAA Regional. It marked the third time in school history that the Sooners had won two tournaments in a fall season. All three occurrences (1988, 2003, 2007) were under the supervision of Ludvigson.

In the fall of 2003, Ludvigson led the Sooners to first-place finishes at the Price's Give `Em Five Intercollegiate and the Kent Youel Invitational. It marked the first time the Sooners had ever claimed two consecutive tournament victories in a fall season. The team went on to win the 2004 Susie Maxwell Berning Classic, marking the fourth consecutive year the Sooners took home the title. OU added a fifth SMB title in April 2008.

Two Sooners, Ellen Mueller and Ryanne Elmer, were named to the 2008 NGCA All-American Scholars team.

While at OU, Ludvigson has received numerous awards, including the 1995 Co-National Coach of the Year honor. In 1991 and 1995 she was named the Big Eight Coach of the Year and she was named the Big 12 Coach of the Year in 2001.

Realizing the importance of the overall college experience, Ludvigson emphasizes academic excellence with her student-athletes. During her tenure, her players have received more than 100 all-conference and national academic awards.

As a standout golfer at Flossmoor High School in Illinois, Ludvigson passed up a scholarship to the University of Miami (Fla.) to walk on at Oklahoma in 1978. During her Sooner career, she established herself as a key member of the golf team coached by Joan Blumenthal by earning three trips as an individual to the AIAW National Championships. She also contributed to OU's 1981 Big Eight title. That same year, Ludvigson was voted Player of the Year by then-Norman radio station KNOR.

After graduating with honors in business management from OU in 1982, Ludvigson accepted a position as an assistant golf pro at Oklahoma City Golf and Country Club.

Soon after, she moved to Westwood Park Golf Course in Norman as an assistant pro.

Three years later, Ludvigson returned to OU as the head women's golf coach. In her first full season, the Sooners won two tournaments and never placed lower than seventh in any event.

Ludvigson earned a master's of science degree in health promotion from OU in 1997 as well as a doctorate of philosophy, ABD, in 2005. Ludvigson and her son, Jackson, reside in Norman.
