The University of Oklahoma Department of Intercollegiate Athletics is entirely self-supporting and receives no state funds, which creates a significant need for private contributions. Our reliance on private support increases each year as the cost of education and the resources necessary to maintain a quality athletics program continue to escalate. The athletics department is responsible for the educational expenses (tuition, fees, room, board and books) of more than 400 student-athletes who receive financial assistance to attend OU and represent the university in intercollegiate competition.
The Sooner Club, as the principal fundraising arm of OU Athletics, provides a way for individuals to help these talented young people receive a quality education from The University of Oklahoma while ensuring our tradition of excellence continues into the new millennium. OU Athletics, through its 20 men's and women's intercollegiate sports, provides a sense of pride for the institution, its faculty, alumni, students and friends. A successful athletics program deepens this pride, serving as a rallying point for the entire university community and enhancing national exposure, which can help attract the best and brightest to our campus.
The Sooner Club is dedicated to the continuing improvement and development of OU's athletics program. Its members are friends, alumni, and advocates of the university who recognize the value of the intercollegiate athletic experience and enthusiastically participate in a variety of support activities. The Sooner Club is the cornerstone of OU Athletics, and the support of its members is absolutely essential for the success of our student-athletes.
