NORMAN, Okla. -- Oklahoma senior shortstop Jack Mayfield led the 57-member Academic All-Big 12 Baseball Team, which included four Sooners on the first team, the conference announced Thursday.
Mayfield, a multidisciplinary studies major from Del Rio, Texas, was one of three Big 12 players honored for having a 4.0 grade point average this academic year.
Oklahoma seniors Garrett Carey (Hutto, Texas), Dusty Dishman (Sugarland, Texas) and Jake Fisher (Tahlequah, Okla.) were also named to the first team.
First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA while the second team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher (either cumulative or the two previous semesters) and must have participated in 60 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
No. 19 Oklahoma visits No. 18 Kansas State in Manhattan, Kan., for its final regular season series. The second-place Sooner sit two wins behind the Wildcats in the Big 12 standings.
