NORMAN, Okla. -- The University of Oklahoma women's golf team is tied for fifth place after shooting a 322 (+34) in freezing conditions in the first round of the Big 12 Championship Friday in Rhodes, Iowa.

The Sooners are tied with Kansas, six strokes behind first-place Texas Tech at the par-72 Harvester Golf Club. The Red Raiders are followed by Oklahoma State in second place, Baylor in third place and host Iowa State in fourth.

Opening-day play was delayed until the afternoon due to weather conditions. The temperature was around 20 degrees when the Sooners teed off at noon and never got above 30 degrees. The field played in 25-mile-per-hour winds that gusted up to 35 mph.

“Today's conditions were really tough,” said head coach Veronique Drouin-Luttrell. “We've never played in weather this severe, but we survived a difficult day. We are a few shots back and still have 36 holes left.”

Juniors Emily Collins and Anne-Catherine Tanguay led the Sooners Friday, each shooting an 8-over-par 80. The pair is tied for ninth place out of 45 competitors, six strokes behind leader Lauren Taylor of Baylor.

Senior Taylor Schmidt and juniors Chirapat Jao-Javanil and Kaitlyn Rohrback all recorded an 81 (+9) and are tied for 15th place.

Saturday's second round will begin for the Sooners at 10:50 a.m. CT. Oklahoma will be paired with Kansas and Iowa State. Live stats are available at Golfstat.com.
