NORMAN, Okla. -- An in-state product and one of the nation's top high school baseball players joined the Sooners' incoming class of freshmen for the 2014 season Wednesday.
Drew Ward, a 6-foot-4, 210-pound infielder from Leedey (Okla.) High School, filed a National Letter of Intent with the University of Oklahoma, head baseball coach Sunny Golloway announced.
"We are very excited to have Drew and his family joining our family here at Oklahoma Baseball," Golloway said. "Drew's outstanding talent speaks for itself on the diamond, but what is even more impressive is the character of this young man. We are honored he will be a Sooner for life."

Ward was named to All-America teams by Perfect Game, ESPN and MaxPreps in 2012 and was a consensus top-five prospect before reclassifying as a senior earlier this academic year. He will graduate in May.
The right-handed thrower, lefty batter is hitting .565 with seven home runs and 26 RBIs this spring. He has a .780 on-base percentage and a 1.217 slugging percentage.
In the midst of his third prep season, Ward has a career .571 batting average with 63 home runs, 233 RBIs and 247 walks.
As a freshman, Ward led the Leedey Bison to a state runner-up finish in the fall tournament and set a state record with 88 combined walks during the fall and spring campaigns.
In 2011, Ward was the third youngest player ever to be invited to the Area Code Games. Ward led the Bison back to the fall and spring tournament again in his sophomore year.
