NORMAN, Okla. -- The University of Oklahoma men's gymnastics team upset No. 2 Michigan 432.100-431.250 on the road Saturday night.

The upset win came in come-from-behind fashion, as the second-ranked Sooners (14-1, 31- MPSF) found themselves down by 6.050 points after three rotations. OU used the second half of competition to climb back into it and defeat the Wolverines (9-1, 5-0), who suffered their first loss of the season.

"I have to hand it to the team, we preached to them the importance of being ready to handle adversity and to capitalize on the situation, and they did that," OU head coach Mark Williams said. "They plugged along and did what they needed to do to win. It was a meet that had many challenges because of the home field advantage Michigan had in how tight the arena has the fans. They're right on top of the event, very loud and vocal and it presented challenges to staying focused throughout the meet."

Michigan held a 220.250-214.200 lead at the halfway point of the competition. With the Sooners on rings and the Wolverines on vault, OU scored a 74.700, 3.000 points higher than UM.

The gap was closed in the final two events, and a 72.500 on high bar for Oklahoma was 2.900 points higher than Michigan's 69.600 on parallel bars, which put OU in the lead with no events remaining.

"It was an exciting competiton because of the new scoring format," Williams said. "In the old format, with one score being dropped, mistakes were minimalized. Today we won because we were more prepared in the new format and took advantage of what was presented to us."

Both Oklahoma and Michigan won three team event titles. The Sooners posted the top team score on vault with a 72.800, high bar with a 72.500 and parallel bars with a 70.700. OU claimed two individual event titles and tied for a third.

Stanton Rehkemper's career-high 14.950 on high bar earned him his second-straight event crown, while Sergey Resnick posted the top score on pommel horse with a 14.700. Alec Robin and UM's Michael Strathern both notched a 14.750 on vault to share the top-score honors.

The third-ranked Sooners take next weekend off before hosting Ohio State in the regular season finale on March 23.
