DENTON, Texas – The No. 1 Oklahoma women's gymnastics team defeated TWU 197.275-195.300 at Kitty Magee Arena on Friday.
Senior Brie Olson led the top-ranked Sooners, winning the vault and bars titles while tying with teammate Lara Albright for the floor title. Sophomore Erica Brewer took her second all-around title of the year, scoring 39.300.
"I just never felt like we got it together tonight," said OU head coach K.J. Kindler. "It felt like a very uninspired performance. Although we had some exceptional performances from some people, we definitely were not all on the same page tonight."
OU recorded one of its best vault scores of the season with a 49.425, highlighted by Olson's career-high 9.975.
Freshman Haley Scaman added a 9.9 and junior Madison Mooring scored a 9.875.
Junior Taylor Spears, ranked No. 1 in the nation on beam coming into this week, continued her string of strong performances with a 9.95 to lead the Sooners.
Albright tied her career high on floor for the second-straight meet with a 9.9, claiming her first individual title of the season in a tie with Olson. OU finished with a 49.375 on th event.
Olson's 9.9 on bars was tops on the night, followed closely by identical 9.875 scores from Brewer and Spears.
"We didn't have a lot of moments tonight," Kindler said. "And it takes a lot of moments to win a championship."
The Sooners will host their final two regular season home meets next weekend, as No. 15 Arizona visits the Lloyd Noble Center on Friday, March 8, at 7 p.m. CT. Oklahoma will then compete against No. 12 Stanford and North Carolina on Sunday, March 10, at 2:30 p.m. CT on Senior Night.
